EaSI Technical Assistance workshop on public-private partnerships in social finance

The European Union is offering a workshop titled: “Public Private Partnerships in Social Finance” under the EaSI Technical Assistance programme for social enterprise finance providers. The workshop will take place in Stockholm on 21 June between 9:00 and 17:00 CET

The role of regional governments, communal administrations, and local public actors as co-investors and collaborators has continuously increased since the launch of the Social Business Initiative (SBI) in many countries.

The importance of public-private-partnerships (PPP) to solve social issues has been highlighted crucially during the Covid-19 pandemic – from developing vaccines to outreach activities to underserved communities. However, the form that the public component takes depends on the country, the social and solidarity economy ecosystem and the specific project.

It can range from financial support to indirect or contingent support, to in-kind support, to broader financial mechanisms that can support the country’s PPP programme or encourage the financial markets to lend into projects.

But the public administration’s participation in the field remains so far often limited to single transactions and no standardised procedures or best practice example are known.

Important fields of interest for these cross-sectoral collaborations are social outcome contracts (such as SIBs, SIINCs or outcome funds), social public procurement and social innovation.

The workshop will discuss existing models and present good practice examples from the field. In the afternoon, participants will work in co-creation sessions on possible way forwards and practical questions of implementation.
