EU Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights Nicolas Schmit is participating in COP26 side-event titled Just transition: Putting people & fairness at the heart of the transition to climate neutrality
The 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) takes place in Glasgow on 31 October-12 November 2021.
The European Union, like in previous years, provides a space for side events seeking to stimulate the debate on key thematic areas, facilitating dialogue with Party delegates and other participants, as well as launching new initiatives and partnerships and showcasing inspiring and successful projects or policies.
About the event
Fighting climate change is the defining challenge of our time – we owe it to today’s youth and to future generations. The SDGs and the European Green Deal offer ambitious strategies and action programs to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. How can we ensure that the transition will will be fair, reduce inequalities and ensure that nobody is left behind? What action is needed to ensure the necessary investments in skills? This session discusses challenges and opportunities of the green transition and ways to make it work for everyone.
