Assessment of social impact is a defining element of the social finance market. More and more investors are considering social impact, alongside financial returns, when they assess investment opportunities. While financial returns are easily calculated, assessing social impact poses greater challenges.

This workshop will cover the complete process of impact assessment and reporting from collecting data and assessing the impact, to reporting about impact. Evidently, these steps are interlinked, with continuous feedback loops.

The first building block is the assessment of impact on the basis of data collected. The moderators will illustrate the status quo, as well as different methodologies of assessing impact. They will also present interesting case studies and examples.

The second building block of the workshop is the reporting system which gives an overview of the social dimension of the organization. There are a few approaches to report the impact of the organization. Having been responsible for designing the Social Reporting Standard, the workshop moderator will discuss the challenges related to terminologies, measurement, different types of interventions and the attribution of success.

Participants will have the opportunity to develop the theory of change for their own organization as well as individual templates for impact assessment. They will develop a first set of indicators specific to their organisation, design their data collection process and will be supported in defining target values across their portfolio.

The workshop will be moderated by Prof. Dr. Barbara Scheck from the European Center for Social Finance, with input from Dr. Lena Lütjens-Schilling from Nordlicht Management Consulting.

This one-day-and-a-half event will take place from 14 October at 10.00 until 15 October at 14.00 at the premises of the Munich Business School.
