AGRO CS, one of the largest producers of growing substrates in Slovakia, improved and expanded its operations in Lučenec, a municipality in the Banská Bystrica region of southern Slovakia. Thanks to EU structural funds, the company can more efficiently process and convert biodegradable waste into high-quality organic fertilizers, in response to increasing demand for such products.
New technology to improve waste recovery, processing in Lučenec, Slovakia
- 29 May 2020
The company fundamentally changed its production process, improving quality and efficiency and expanding its operations. Sophisticated modern technology is used to process biodegradable waste and produce organic-mineral fertilizers for the agricultural sector. The project increased the capacity for waste recovery and recycling to 10 000 tonnes per year.
AGRO CS acquired modern and innovative technology that improves and increases the composting plant’s processing and waste recovery rate. As a result, the composting facility increased its production capacity by 10 000 tonnes of non-hazardous, biodegradable waste per year.
The new production line was installed in a separate facility on the company premises and operates independently from the other onsite processing facilities.
Improved efficiency, greater competitiveness
The new technology acquired is used to process biodegradable waste such as manure and green waste into fertilizers for the agricultural sector. Incoming waste is prepared, dried and pressed into granular fertilizers.Through the new conversion process, the company increased its competitiveness on both the domestic and foreign markets. As a result of the project’s implementation, three new jobs were created.
Reducing the environmental burden
The modernised production process has improved the quality of the local environment. It produces significantly fewer pollutants that would otherwise end up in the air, soil and water. The increased waste processing capacity has reduced the number of illegal dumps in the Lučenec district and relieved pressure on local landfills.
With its headquarters in Říkov in the Czech Republic, AGRO CS launched a subsidiary in Slovakia in 2000 because over 50 % of its products went to the Slovak market.
