New primary school for Lappa, in rural Greece
- 18 May 2020
Housing the Lappa Primary School within a complex of modern buildings has resulted in a modernisation of the primary school’s infrastructure and conditions, along with an improvement in the educational services provided to the pupils of this rural area.
With the aim of satisfying the primary education needs of the entire municipal district of Lappa of the Municipality of Western Achaia, this EU-funded project helped build a new primary school in this rural community in the region of Western Greece.
The Lappa Primary School can accommodate up to 120 children. It was inaugurated in May 2018.
Two buildings, one school
At the heart of the new school is a two-storey classroom building. The 1 304.20 m2 building houses the general classrooms, teacher and administrative offices, physics and chemistry laboratories, parents’ association office, health facilities office, storage spaces, toilet facilities and cafeteria. The building is accessible for people with disabilities.
The second building has a total surface area of 375.84 m2 and houses the air-conditioned multipurpose room. Located adjacently to the schoolyard, the building includes an events stage, library and open space.
Improving education
According to school administrators, the project significantly upgraded the community’s educational infrastructure – an important step in improving the quality of education in the region. But it’s not just the children who are benefiting from the new school. Thanks to its unique design, the school also serves as an architectural icon and a point of pride for the entire area.
