New kindergarten for Hronsek in central Slovakia

  • 24 June 2019

The village of Hronsek near Banska Bystrica in central Slovakia has a new kindergarten thanks to the completion of an EU-supported construction project.

The implementation of the project will create new school infrastructure for a total of 20 children in the municipality of Hronsek.

A section of the village’s general office has been converted to provide the new service, which provides learning and play spaces for 20 local children. An outside area has been converted into an eco-garden. The kindergarten’s design provides barrier-free access to children with limited mobility.

The building that houses the new kindergarten was only used occasionally and its conversion now meets local needs. Before, the village had no such services for preschool children. The kindergarten’s intake of 20 children represents 80 % of the total number of children aged 3 to 5 in the area.

Major remodelling

Construction work included major internal modifications to the second floor of the building’s structure. New walls, ceilings and floors were installed, along with doors and windows to provide a complete remodelling. Essential infrastructure, such as water and electricity, was upgraded.

The heating system was changed and the canteen refitted. A ramp was installed next to the building’s staircase for adults and children with reduced mobility.

All necessary furniture and fittings required for a modern kindergarten were provided, including tables, chairs and storage facilities. Beds and mattresses were purchased for the children’s rest room.

Total investment and EU funding

The total investment for the project “Kindergarten in Hronsek” is EUR 132 637, with the EU’s European Regional Development Fund contribution of EUR 112 741 financed through the “Integrated Regional” Operational Programme for the 2014-2020 programming period. The investment falls under the priority “Education and Training”.
