Hungarian telecoms equipment supplier makes its voice heard thanks to EU funding

  • 19 September 2020

A Hungarian telecommunications equipment supplier acquired new equipment, allowing it to expand its rental services to new markets in central and eastern Europe and increase revenue, under this EU-funded project.

With this development, we have become a key player in the Central and Eastern European market.

Balázs Kiss, Kommtech International CEO

Kommtech International purchased one wireless and two digital intercom communication systems. These can be used at a multitude of sporting and cultural events, in small and large venues, outdoors and indoors, and by news broadcasters.

This means that the company no longer has to rent its equipment from another communication products supplier. As a result, Kommtech was able to hire two new employees and increase sales by 50 %.

Since the project’s completion in 2018, the system has been used at over 100 events worldwide, including the 34th LEN European Water Polo Championship in Budapest in January 2020, the 2019 Hungarian Grand Prix and the Sziget music festival, held in Budapest every August.

Helping doctors during COVID-19

The intercom system has also been used in two of Budapest’s hospitals – Uzsoki and OBSI – to enable doctors and nurses working in the emergency and Covid-19 wards to communicate with their colleagues outside these areas, without having to come into direct contact or use their smartphones.

Each hospital received four belt packs and an antenna which enables the system to operate autonomously, without the need for further hardware. Doctors and nurses clip the device to their belts. They can be used without a headset and are on air continuously to avoid the user having to touch any buttons.

Award-winning technology

Because the systems are adaptable for use in a multitude of environments, they have enabled Kommtech to provide better service for its customers. The equipment procured under the project was nominated for the 2018 InAVation Awards, an audio-visual innovation award held in Amsterdam in 2019.

One of the systems purchased is the Riedel Performer digital partyline intercom. The belt packs in this system allow users to communicate easily in noisy environments thanks to their excellent digital signal processing. The features in the ergonomically designed system include separate volume adjustment for each of the two channels and a light signal to indicate incoming calls.

Total investment and EU funding

Total investment for the project “Competitiveness increase with adaptive technological innovation at Kommtech International Communication Technical Ltd” is EUR 113 021, with the EU’s European Regional Development Fund contributing EUR 45 148 through the “Economic Development and Innovation” Operational Programme for the 2014-2020 programming period. The investment falls under the priority “Increasing the competitiveness and productivity of SMEs”.
