On the 12th of March 2021, the Educational Resources and Technologies Team, from the Directorate-General for Education (Ministry of Education of Portugal) organized a seminar: Plano de açao para o desenvolvimento digital das escolas (Action plan for the digital development of schools) that was attented by 3,820 school leaders and teachers

The main objective of this National Event was to raise awareness of school leaders and education groups on the importance of designing, implementing and monitoring Action Plans for Digital Development in their schools. This was based on two complementary perspectives on how to approach digital education:

  1. The pedagogical use of digital technologies to support and improve teaching and learning.
  2. The development of the students’ and teachers’ digital skills.

Nikoleta Giannoutsou, scientific officer at JRC in Seville and project Manager of SELFIE was an invited speaker in the event where she gave a presentation on interventions on how to support schools following the SELFIE exercise: "After #SELFIE_EU: interventions to support schools to develop their digital strategy".

In April 2021, Portugal introduced SELFIE in all schools as a support instrument to develop the digital strategy of the school.

The SELFIE tool already has more than half a million Portuguese users who have completed their exercise during the last session. In this way, Portugal has become, in a very short period of time, the country with the most SELFIE users in the world.
