Participation at the Cedefop/OCDE symposium on apprenticeship and digital transition
date: 18/08/2023
Between 14-16 June, we joined the 3rd OCDE-Cedefop symposium on apprenticeship and digital transition, in Cedefop premises in Thessaloniki.
This event was co-organised by Cedefop and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OCDE) and gathered more than 100 experts in vocational education and training (VET) from around the world, including policy-makers, social partners, practitioners and researchers.
Linked to European Year of Skills, its main aim was to explore the links between apprenticeships and the digital transition, and their implications for policymaking.
During the symposium, the JRC presented its work on digital transformation of the VET sector (current research strands) together with the SELFIE WBL tool.
One of the main conclusions reached during the event is that digitalisation has an impact on jobs: digital skills gaps, modification of jobs skills requirement. For that reason, workplace learning must be increased and play a more relevant role.
Also, it is clear that new technologies (like ChatGPT and generative IA, among others) are modifying the content of jobs. These digital technologies can support teachers to be more effective in the teaching and learning processes.
