USTR Releases 2024 Review of Notorious Markets for Counterfeiting and Piracy

WASHINGTON – The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) today released the findings of its 2024 Review of Notorious Markets for Counterfeiting and Piracy (the Notorious Markets List). The Notorious Markets List highlights online and physical markets that reportedly engage in or facilitate substantial trademark counterfeiting or copyright piracy.

Targeted Consultation on the Functioning of the International IP SME Helpdesks

The Commission would like to remind you about our targeted consultation on the functioning of the International IP SME Helpdesk activities in China, South-East Asia, Latin America, and India. This consultation is now available in 23 EU languages at https://ec.europa.eu/eusurvey/runner/International-IP-SME-Helpdesks-Survey2025 and will run until 11 April. The International IP SME Helpdesk services provide helplines, training sessions, online resources, and publications to help businesses develop and strengthen their intellectual property (IP) strategies. This consultation aims to assess whether these helpdesks are meeting the needs of EU SMEs operating or planning to enter foreign markets. Additionally, it will also explore potential improvements to better serve these businesses, including feedback on the most suitable geographical locations and organisational structures for the services. Please do not hesitate to inform interested parties as well.

South-East Asian nations such as Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines are recognised globally for their impressive biodiversity, earning them the distinction of being megadiverse countries. Each nation boasts a rich tapestry of ecosystems, from lush rainforests to vibrant coral reefs, that support an array of flora and fauna. These countries with their rich genetic resources, together with 14 other countries, are recognised to harbour more than 70% of the earth's species.

 
Commission allocates €132 million to promote sustainable and high-quality agri-food products in the EU and worldwide

The Commission will allocate €132 million in 2025 to co-fund promotion activities for sustainable and high-quality EU agri-food products in the internal market and worldwide. The 2025 promotion policy work programme adopted today by the Commission is designed to develop new market opportunities for EU farmers and the wider EU food industry, as well as to help them secure their existing business. Its priorities take into account the overarching objectives of sustainability and competitiveness, as well as food security, outlined in the Political guidelines for the Commission 2024-2029.

The 2024 Highlights summarize the major trends in the report, drawing on 2023 filing, registration and renewals statistics from national and regional IP offices and WIPO for patents, utility models, trademarks, industrial designs, microorganisms, plant variety protection and geographical indications.

 
Latest release of MyEPO deployed for all users

The European Patent Office (EPO) is pleased to announce a series of new functionalities for its MyEPO services suite. In line with our Strategic Plan 2028, this year’s final major release includes enhancements to existing processes and expanded self-management options, in line with our goal of making the digital patent granting process (PGP) more user-friendly and efficient. Following our best practice, these improvements were developed and trialled in close collaboration with our pilot user groups, which comprise 145 companies, prior to being released to all users. To date, we have had five such releases with many features tested and released to users.

 
Change in the Amounts of the Individual Fee: Viet Nam
