Dear colleagues, Welcome to our 16th newsletter, the first one of the new academic year 2020-2021.

As announced in the last newsletter, from now on SCIC intends to publish a report every September on the previous academic year on the interpreter training support activities.

To mark the occasion of the European Day of Languages, on Friday the 25 September SCIC B1 organised a mock conference on the topic of multilingualism. Rather than being a real conference with experts, the mock conference offered exchanges among SCIC colleagues on the topic of multilingualism with the aim of offering practice material in several languages for interpreting students.

The “Academy of Trainers” for experienced interpreter trainers, organised by SCIC B1, took place on 24 and 25 September 2020. This was a follow-up to the pilot thematic workshop held in September 2019.

During the last academic year we ran a pilot project with EMCI (European Masters in Conference Interpreting) universities and some volunteers. The aim was to use a private community per university in the KCI (Knowledge Centre on Interpretation) to manage our support activities.

The meeting of the Evaluation committee deciding about the Pedagogical Assistance activities in the 1st semester of this academic year took place on 8 September.

The month of September is the month when a new academic year begins! Even if we are all still adapting to the new measures in our day-to-day lives, the Speech Repository team is trying to make things a bit easier for you. How?

Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 crisis, no physical study visits in Brussels can take place until the end of the academic year, as we cannot guarantee the acceptance of external visitors at the Commission premises.
