Since February 2021, SPAR is the first Austrian food retailer to cooperate with Too Good To Go in all SPAR gourmet stores in three Austrian provinces (Vienna, Lower Austria, Burgenland). The Too Good To Go initiative rescues valuable food, together with end consumers, and combats food waste with ingenuity and a dash of creativity.

Food products that approach their expiry dates are packed in ‘surprise packages’ called Magic Bags and can be ordered via an app for a much lower price (a third of the retail price).

So far, the first practical experiences are very positive and numerous end consumers make use of this offer. Thus, this initiative shows that innovative offers for end consumers can have a significant impact. The initiative fits perfectly with the various measures already implemented by SPAR to avoid food loss and waste.
