Featured in Euronews: REFRESH, the EU funded project aiming to drastically reduce food waste
Euronews Futuris has been investigating the current strides taken towards reducing food waste. They came across the work of the 4-year EU funded research project REFRESH that has ended in 2019.
Under the coordination of Wageningen University & Research, 26 partners from 12 European countries and China worked together to fulfill the project's goal to contribute towards the Sustainable Development Goal Target 12.3. REFRESH focused on the reduction of avoidable waste and improved valorisation of food resources. Backed by research to better understand the drivers of food waste, the project supported better decision-making by both the industry and consumers. The project took an innovative, systemic approach to curb food waste through a holistic ‘Framework for Action’.
In the related article, Euronews Futuris looked at some of the key game changing initiatives carried out in the Netherlands, all connected under the national coalition Food Waste Free United (Samen Tegen Voedselverspilling).
