Gender pay gap: UK women earn 20.8% less than men
Women in the UK earn on average 20.8% an hour less than men, according to figures released by the European Commission which show the UK has the fifth highest gender pay gap in the EU. The EU average is 16.3%. The data came ahead of "Equal Pay Day" on 3 November: in other words the day women stop being paid while men continue to earn until the end of the year. In effect, this means women work for free for two months a year.
