A MOOC is a Massive Open Online Course: a university-level course that is fully online which anyone, anywhere, can attend. The course, aiming to enhance Europeans’ knowledge of territorial cooperation in Europe is made of four core sections:

  • Section 1: Outlines the general framework of Interreg, locating territorial cooperation in Europe in its historical context by exploring the origins, evolution and theoretical framework of territorial cooperation as it has developed in Europe since the conclusion of WWII.
  • Section 2: Presents existing European policies in the field of territorial cooperation: Interreg, Neighbourhood Policy, Macro-regional Policy, etc., with a view to analysing decision-making procedures, implementation and impacts.
  • Section 3: Taking a thematic approach the course now explores five policy areas, namely: health, spatial planning, environment, culture, mobility. The objective in this section is to assess how Interreg has helped shape the implementation of these policies.
  • Section 4: The final section of the course will evaluate how territorial cooperation is concretely practised by actors on the ground. Covering the challenges encountered and the methods used to resolve such issues the aim of this section is to introduce the basics of project management and provide participants with a series of tool for developing and implementing cross-border projects efficiently.

Open to everyone and free of charge, we encourage you sign up if you are part of the academic community, a practitioner of territorial cooperation, an individual or organisation based in a border region wanting to promote the development of their cross-border region or someone simply wanting to learn more about territorial cooperation in Europe. The course runs for 6 weeks, for a total of 18h (3h/week).
