Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms Elisa Ferreira said: “The decision taken today is one more expression of what the EU stands for: solidarity with all EU Member States and regions in the face of challenges. While our efforts continue to be focused on getting us through the pandemic, no region and Member State is left behind in the face of disasters.”

The Commission will finalise its assessment and will propose to mobilise the final aid package to the Parliament and the Council. The funding from the EUSF will cover parts of the cost of public emergency and recovery operations and restoring public infrastructure damaged by the storm in Provence-Alpes-Côtes d’Azur.

The EUSF was created after the severe floods in Central Europe in the summer of 2002. Between 2002 and 2020, the EUSF mobilised a total of over €6.5 billion for interventions in 96 disaster events in 23 Member States and 1 accession country.

France has received a total of more than €252 million so far.

More information on the EUSF interventions is available on the ESIF Open Data Platform.
