Smart Regions: Italy, Albania and Montenegro join forces to protect the Adriatic-Ionian marine ecosystem with ADRINET

Thanks to the financial support of the Interreg IPA-CBC Italy-Albania-Montenegro, the “ADRINET” project is helping to improve a joint coastal management system and create governance plans to preserve biodiversity and coastal ecosystems in the Adriatic-Ionian Sea.

date:  20/01/2021

The principle is simple: the three countries’ territories share the same issues in terms of pollution, over-exploitation of fish stocks, illegal fishery, fish sophistication and ‘ghost fishing’. Hence, they have decided to join forces for technology investments, mapping fishing routes, monitoring sea pollution, providing services, scientific support and skills for fisheries professionals and consumers, in order to make fish consumption safer and compliant with EU rules and guidelines.
