The 'Water and Environment Support' (WES) project presents outcomes of technical assistance on plastic bottle waste management in Morocco

In its latest newsletter, the WES project recalls the technical assistance provided to the Department of Sustainable Development (DSD) in the Moroccan Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, between April 2021 and February 2023. This technical assistance aimed at promoting Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for managing plastic bottle waste.

 
Building Alliances for Budget Accountability in the Southern Neighbourhood (BABA) to unlock the power of open budget in the region

Amidst the challenges of budget transparency in the MENA region, glimpses of hope and promising signs of reform are emerging. The EU-International Budget Partnership (IBP) new initiative in the MENA region, Building Alliances for Budget Accountability in the Southern Neighbourhood, will enable further progress to be made. The project is currently in its inception phase.

 
EBSOMED jointly holds seminar with GIZ and UfM on 'Aligning Investments with Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility'

On 24 - 26 May ANIMA organised, under the EU supported EBSOMED project, a seminar jointly with the UFM Secretariat and GIZ on ‘Aligning Investments with Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility’, gathering representatives from different international organisations (including EBRD, OECD, UNIDO) and Business Support Organisations in Europe and the Southern Neighbourhood.

Syrian refugee children learn Turkish in schools thanks to an EU-funded project

Foreign nationals make up one-fifth of the students at the Erol Battal Middle School in Istanbul’s Bagcilar district. Sheima al-Huseyni is the third best student in the school. Due to the war, she and her little brother Osama had to flee Syria and move to Türkiye. "There was a lot of war there. In fact, when we returned home one time, the house next door was completely gone; it had been bombed ", remembers Sheima. Thanks to the EU-funded project Promoting Integration of Syrian Kids into Turkish Education System (PIKTES) Sheima and Osama were able to take Turkish language lessons. This helped them to communicate better with their peers and to integrate smoothly into the educational process.

 
From #PowerToBe to #PowerToShare: changing refugee perceptions in Türkiye

The #PowerToBe campaign follows the story of three passionate Syrians living in Türkiye. Hiba, Ibrahim and Davud were forced to flee their homes and leave everything behind, but they are driven by the desire to connect with and support others. The campaign follows refugees in Türkiye who receive monthly EU-funded cash assistance to meet their essential needs, and shows how people from all walks of life can connect and support each other.

 
The Second Edition of meetMED Week in Morocco tackles energy transition in the Mediterranean region

Within the activities of the meetMED II project (Mitigation Enabling Energy Transition in the Mediterranean Region), funded by the European Union, the second edition of meetMED Weeks took place in Marrakech from 9 to 11 May. The three-day event brought together more than 250 energy experts representing officials, stakeholders, and policymakers from the Mediterranean region with the aim of promoting energy and climate transition.
