In the framework of the EU-funded meetMED II project “Mitigation Enabling Energy Transition in the Mediterranean Region", a national roundtable was organised in Egypt and showcased innovative funding mechanisms aiming to support the energy transition in the Mediterranean region.
In the framework of the World Power-to-X Summit held in Marrakech, the MED-GEM network co-hosted a training focusing on how to face Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and mitigate its more challenging impacts. This was the opportunity to understand CBAM-related challenges and opportunities for the Moroccan industry.
On 9 October, during the closing ceremony of the World Power-to-X Summit in Marrakech, the winners of the first edition of the #GH2HackathonMorocco, co-designed by the MED-GEM Network, in partnership with IRESEN and GIZ Morocco, were presented. At the end of a Summer school of 8 weeks, three finalists presented their ideas in front of a big audience and the winning team received the price from Dr Leila Benali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development of Morocco. The winners thereby won a study trip to Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg in Germany.
Discover the power of collaboration and innovation with the Blackbox Elevate programme, part of the programme “From Innovation to Creation”. Bringing together 17 startup ecosystem leaders from Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, and Tunisia, this EU-funded initiative, in partnership with SPARK and Blackbox, ignited change in Brussels through 25 transformative workshops.
The Closing Conference of the EU-funded “Water and Environment Support (WES) in the ENI Neighbourhood South Region” project was held on 8 October, in Athens. During the meeting, the results and impact of this regional project were presented and discussed. More than 100 demand driven comprehensive WES Activities were organised at regional and national level, providing technical assistance to the 8 WES Partner Countries (PCs) from North Africa and the Middle East.

Regional project “Social Dialogue for Formalization and Employability in the Southern Neighbourhood" (SOLIFEM), co-funded by the European Union, the International Labour Organization (ILO) organised a regional capacity-building workshop focused on international experiences and emerging good practices on social dialogue for formalisation.
On 24 September, a joint Steering Committee was held with the European Investment Bank (EIB) on two blending facilities: the Risk Capital Facility and the Local Currency Initiative.
The Clima-Med project has released a "Climate Finance Guidebook", a tool to help municipalities secure funding for their Sustainable Energy Access and Climate Action Plan (SEACAP) projects, developed with the project's assistance.

The European Commission’s Joint Research Center (JRC) has published an assessment of the CoM Med and its impact on driving climate action at cities’ level in the Mediterranean. This assessment draws lessons and conclusions to inform future actions not only in the Southern Mediterranean region but also worldwide.
PEEB Med, an EU-funded programme promoting energy efficiency in buildings was recently featured at DecarboMed, a major forum on decarbonisation in the Mediterranean region.
Discussions focused on current activities of the Euro-Med organisations, their priorities and way forward, ahead of the next Ministerial meeting of the UfM, the IX Regional Forum, late October in Barcelona and the next ALF Forum in 2025 in Tirana.
The EU and the International Labour Organisation join forces to support Youth NEETs in the Southern Mediterranean through a new regional initiative aiming at making public policies and services more responsive to the needs of youth not in education, employment or training (NEET). The online launching event of this regional project took place on 15 July 2024, bringing together EU and ILO representatives, government officials from the Southern Mediterranean region, workers’ and employers’ organizations, the European Training Foundation, and the Union for the Mediterranean Secretariat. The event fostered regional exchanges of experiences and best practices among stakeholders. It contributed to a shared understanding of the situation of young NEETs and raised awareness about the approach proposed by the new project.
On 18 and 19 September, 22 representatives from 14 Enlargement and Neighbourhood countries met in Porto to participate in the joint Project Advisory Committee of EU4Monitoring Drugs II (EU4MD II) and IPA8, two technical cooperation projects implemented the EU Drugs Agency. The aim of this meeting was to review the progress achieved under these projects. The participants discussed the steps taken to consolidate national drug information systems as well as the benefits and challenges of piloting new data-collection tools and boosting drug-related competences. The meeting was also a good opportunity to review emerging drug market trends in both regions and deliberate and coordinate the main activities and outputs for the coming years.
On 9-13 September, the EuroMed Justice project, in co-operation with INTERPOL Momentum MENA project and the Malta General Police organised an in-person capacity building training on Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling Investigations, in Valletta, Malta. The 5-day course enhanced law enforcement and judicial authorities technical capacities in addressing transnational organised human trafficking and migrant smuggling crimes by adapting current and state-of-the-art investigation techniques and practices.
Following discussions held during the Annual Conference of the project in May 2024, EuroMeSCo released a paper on the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), a planned economic corridor that aims to bolster economic development by fostering connectivity and economic integration between Asia, the Persian Gulf and Europe.
As the project "EuroMeSCo: Connecting the Dots" is set to end in September, the consortium of think tanks has released two new publications focusing on renewable energy and the impact of CBAM on Southern Neighbourhood countries, two topics which will undoubtedly be priorities for the new incoming Commission.
