LDS User Group – Inaugural Meeting

On 20 March 2024, a total of 52 representatives from 42 different organisations from all over Europe attended the first meeting of the LDS User Group (formerly referred to as CELT+).

date:  15/04/2024

As the name suggests, this virtual event was attended by representatives of commercial and academic organisations who are interested in actively using the Language Data Space to either share or access language data. All participants showed keen interest in learning more about the LDS and getting involved in the development of the first prototypes of the LDS infrastructure.

The meeting included a welcome note by EC Project Officer Philippe Gelin (DG CNECT), an introduction to the overall approach of the Language Data Space and its historical context by project coordinator Georg Rehm (DFKI) and an overview of the technical setup by Stelios Piperidis (ILSP). Furthermore, Andrejs Vasiljevs (Tilde) presented the benefits of LDS for industry stakeholders, and Khalid Choukri (ELDA) gave a summary of the current state of play of the Alliance for Language Technologies EDIC (ALT-EDIC) and its relation to the LDS. The meeting was concluded with an outlook for the next few months in the LDS project. Throughout the meeting, participants’ questions were addressed, and general comments were discussed, with suggestions taken on board.
