⚖️ A BOLD STEP FORWARD: THE EU’S ROADMAP FOR WOMEN’S RIGHTS

On 7 March, ahead of International Women’s Day, Εuropean Commission President Ursula von der Leyen declared: "There is no reason why a woman should be paid less than a man. Or why she should have lower health standards or face violence, because of her gender. We know that societies where women and men are treated equally are better, fairer and more successful. So let us tap into the vast reservoir of talents and skills of everyone, men and women alike. Today's Roadmap shows our strong commitment to continue building a European Union of gender equality and women's rights."

date:  26/03/2025

Echoing the President’s words, Commissioner Lahbib delivered a powerful message: it is the perfect time to prioritise women’s rights. Crises directly impact women and girls, and gender equality must remain central to all EU policies.

At the press conference unveiling the Roadmap for Women’s Rights, Commissioner Lahbib highlighted the EU’s progress in key areas, from pay transparency and gender balance in leadership to combating violence against women and improving work-life balance. However, challenges remain, including the gender pay gap, healthcare disparities, and women's underrepresentation in politics. The Roadmap charts a clear vision for the future, reaffirming the EU’s unwavering commitment to gender equality.

With the UN Commission on the Status of Women just around the corner, this Roadmap will serve as the EU’s blueprint for action. “Because when women thrive, Europe thrives,” she concluded.[2].
