Commission attends International conference on Holocaust memory by Memorial de la Shoah

14 January 2025 - The Commission Coordinator on combating antisemitism and fostering Jewish life, Katharina von Schnurbein, gave an opening address at the Memorial de la Shoah International Conference ahead of the Holocaust Remembrance Day marking 80 years since the liberation of Nazi death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau in the presence of Serge and Beate Klarsfeld, longstanding champions of the fight against antisemitism and hatred, against Holocaust distortion and denial and the obfuscation of the history of WWII.

On this occassion, she stated:

“We must uproot any fertile ground for Holocaust distortion and inversion as propagated by online conspiracy theories proliferated during the COVID-19 pandemic or the Holocaust instrumentalization we witnessed by Kremlin propaganda claiming to "denazify" Ukraine.  

Ms. von Schnurbein informed the public that the European Commission will accelerate the implementation of the EU Strategy on combating antisemitism and fostering Jewish life:

Education, research and Holocaust remembreance are central aspects in the Strategy, which includes supporting projects on European remembrance, including Holocaust education through annual calls for proposals, this year with 18 million EUR.
