The European Capitals of Inclusion and Diversity Award rewards those local authorities that build inclusive and discrimination-free societies. The competition attracted for the third time applications from across the whole European Union, with finalists representing eight countries: Croatia, Italy, Greece, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.
The European Commissioner for Equality, Helena Dalli said:
The European Capitals of Inclusion and Diversity Award provides recognition and visibility to the work of local authorities to create safe and inclusive spaces ensuring belonging and participation. This serves as a source of richness and innovation in Europe and must inspire others. Ultimately, the Union of Equality goals and benefits must reach people at the town or city and regional levels where they live, work, and enjoy their leisure time.
