The festival covers more than 230 activities spanning 63 cities across 20 countries, with the participation of an estimated 40,000 individuals, and lasts until the end of November 2023. It is organised by the European Association for the Preservation and Promotion of Jewish Culture and Heritage (AEPJ), under the patronage of UNESCO. This year, the festival was dedicated to the theme of “Memory”, aiming to provide a platform where the past is reflected upon how it shapes the present and the future, linked to the historical journey of the Jewish people.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, European Commission Coordinator on combating antisemitism and fostering Jewish life, Ms. Katharina von Schnurbein said:

“Jewish heritage is part of Europe’s DNA. And as European institutions, we want to protect Jewish heritage, to safeguard and cherish it”.
