Ms. von Schnurbein emphasised the need to define antisemitism in order to be able to fight it in its multiple forms. She recalled that the Commission has used the IHRA definition, which offers the victims’ perspective, since 2017. Moreover, she stated that in order to respond to the rise of antisemitism in Europe, the Commission will present at the end of 2021 a comprehensive European strategy on combating antisemitism and fostering Jewish life, in line with the Council Declarations on antisemitism of 2018 and 2020.
