European Commission Coordinator on combating antisemitism addresses OSCE experts meeting

1, 2 February 2021 - The Swedish OSCE Chairpersonship 2021, in consultation with the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODHIR), organised an online experts meeting on "Combating anti-Semitism in the OSCE region" on 1st and 2nd February 2021, with 47 OSCE countries representatives, civil society actors and Jewish communities representatives.

Katharina von Schnurbein, European Commission Coordinator on combating antisemitism and fostering Jewish life, addressed the panel discussion on “How to create broad coalitions including participating States, civil society actors, Jewish communities, other religious or belief communities, as well as international organizations, to combat anti-Semitism, racism and intolerance”. She presented EU actions to combat antisemitism and the joint initiatives launched in cooperation with international partners such as UNESCO, the UN, the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, World Jewish Congress etc. to raise awareness about the danger antisemitism poses to European values and democracy. 

Ms. von Schnurbein intervened alongside Ahmed Shaheed, UN Special rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief; Daniel Höltgen, Council of Europe's Special Representative on antisemitic, anti-Muslim and other forms of religious intolerance and hate crimes; Karel Fracapane, Programme Specialist, UNESCO; and Leon Saltiel, Coordinator on Countering anti-Semitism, World Jewish Congress.
