CEO Call for Action and a Task Force for Gender Equality

On the International Women’s Day, at the Gender Equality conference, IKEA Romania, The Romanian Diversity Charter and The Swedish Embassy launched a CEO Call for Action and a Task Force for Gender Equality, a network of companies and organisations that advocates for equal representation of women in leadership positions, equal pay for the same work and equal opportunities for women and men.

date:  11/04/2019

The members of the Romanian Diversity Charter in Romania joined the CEO Task Force: Dentons, Genpact, L’Oréal, Orange, Raiffeisen Bank, Sanofi, Unilever and small Romanian companies as Junior Group.

This initiative is currently gathering companies employing more than 9.000 employees in Romania and aims to expand it to as many organisations as possible that will share knowledge and internal practices for achieving gender-balanced workplace, equal pay for equal work and equal representation of women and men. The Task-Force on Gender Equality under the auspices of the Romanian Charter of Diversity will be an open multi-stakeholders structure seeking to provide a framework for debating and addressing gender diversity issues. It also aims to share good practices across organisations locally and internationally, to develop concrete tools, publications, dedicated events, training programs, etc. to rich its goals.
“I believe that we, as business leaders, have the responsibility to create a gender-equal working environment in our companies. That is why we encouraged the launch of this CEO Call for Action and Task Force and we want this to become a wheel of change. We want to inspire other companies to take active steps towards fostering a culture of inclusion in their work. We want to learn from each other how to create a gender-equal working environment because it is better for business, our employees and society. Together we are stronger and can have even bigger positive impact”, said Stefan Vanoverbeke, CEO IKEA SEE.

The CEO Call for Action and Task Force for Gender Equality was created in co-operation with the Romanian Diversity Charter and with the support of the Swedish Embassy in Romania. The Commitment towards fostering gender equality in the workplace and the call to action document for this initiative was signed today by the representatives of all the companies mentioned, alongside Stefan Vanoverbeke, CEO KEA South East Europe and the Romanian Diversity Charter Ambassador, Eugen Crai.

“The CEO Call for Action on Gender Equality that we launch and commit to today places a strategic focus on a number of priorities where Romania needs substantial improvements. In our European family Romania ranks 25th out of 28 Member States when comparing the values of the EU Gender Equality Index (GEI score of 52.4). The four priorities of the Call for Action address the three GEI Domains in which Romania scored very poorly :`power`, `time` and `money`. We do not offer flowers to women in Romania. Instead we offer a structure that will work year-round for gender equality.”, declared Eugen Crai, Ambassador of the Romanian Diversity Charter.
