"United in diversity" is the motto of the European Union, which was first used in 2000. It signifies how Europeans have come together, in the form of the EU, to work for peace and prosperity, while at the same time being enriched by the continent's many different cultures, traditions and languages. It stands for equality for all, regardless of person’s race or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, gender, age, disability and religion. Employers are playing an ever-growing part in promoting these common values, not only at the workplace, but also in the society in large.
