New European Commission Coordinator for religious dialogue

Mr Vincent Depaigne has been appointed as the European Commission Coordinator for the dialogue between the European Commission and churches, religious associations or communities, philosophical and non-confessional organisations established under Article 17 TFEU.

Mr Vincent Depaigne has worked with the dialogue with religious and non-confessional organisations since 2016. In the previous 6 years, he worked as a lawyer in the Fundamental Rights Policy unit in the Directorate General Justice and Consumers, ensuring the respect of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU in many policy areas, including social rights, trade and property rights. He worked previously on anti-discrimination issues in Directorate General Employment, and in the Asia and Middle East sections of the External Relations department at the European Commission. Vincent Depaigne holds a PhD in Law at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London, and a Master in international human rights law, Oxford University. 

He replaces Ms Katharina von Schnurbein, who has served in this function since January 2012.
