European Day for Victims of Crime
date: 22/02/2017
Today is European Day for Victims of Crime.
Every year across the EU, about 1 in 7 people fall victim to crime. These are children, women or victims of terrorist who need particular support and protection.
In her statement, Commissioner Jourova insists that we must fight violence together and give its victims the support they need to get over the trauma and rebuild their lives.
To that end, she calls on all EU countries that still need transposing the Victims' Rights Directive to do so without delay. She also refers to the ongoing European campaign to raise awareness on all forms of violence towards women and the newly adopted directive on counter-terrorism that recognizes victims of terrorism.
