The European Commission is presenting a series of studies on equality data. This new research promotes equality and contributes to fight against discrimination in the EU by analysing why and what kind of data should be collected in relation to equality and discrimination.

This package maps national legal frameworks and provides for equality data indicators for each member state. The aim is to help Member States in developing their data collection practices while sharing good examples. Moreover, new research explores in more details how to collect equality data in the field of ethnicity and regarding LGBTI people.

Equality represents one of the most fundamental values upon which the European Union is founded. Despite the fact that legislation has played a crucial role in the fight against discrimination, many citizens still experience exclusion across the EU. Discrimination deeply affects the well-being of individuals, groups, businesses, and the social fabric as a whole. The fight against discrimination remains undoubtedly one of the greatest challenges we face today. However, the lack of solid data relating to equality and discrimination limits the understanding of the extent to which discrimination affects our everyday life and how best to tackle it.

This new research complements the European handbook on equality data published earlier this year.
