Rights, Equality & Citizenship programme

The 2020 REC work programme aims to further develop an area where the equality and rights of everyone living in the EU are promoted, protected and effectively implemented.

The Rights, Equality & Citizenship programme supports the following objectives:

  • non-discrimination

  • tackling racism, xenophobia and homophobia and other forms of intolerance

  • rights of people with disabilities

  • gender equality

  • preventing violence against children, young people and women

  • protecting children’s rights

  • protecting personal data

  • rights derived from EU citizenship

  • consumer rights

To this end, the work programme provides financial assistance for measures such as training, conferences, mutual learning and cooperation on media campaigns, awareness-raising and communications measures.

It also provides support to those helping implement the programme goals – national, regional and local authorities, non-governmental organisations and European networks.

Justice Programme

The 2020 Justice work programme helps further develop a European area of justice based on mutual recognition and mutual trust, in particular by promoting cooperation between judicial authorities in different member countries on civil and criminal matters.

Programme goals:

  • support judicial cooperation in civil and criminal matters
  • support and promote judicial training, including language training on legal terminology, to foster a common legal and judicial culture
  • make it easier for everyone to use the justice system by promoting and supporting the rights of crime victims, while respecting the rights of the defence
  • support initiatives on drugs as regards judicial cooperation and crime prevention (closely linked to the programme’s overall objective).
