As was highlighted at the Summit of Social Partners on 31 January 2024 in Brussels-Val Duchesse, there is a need for skilled workers and for quality jobs to boost the EU's competitiveness. This is because labour and skills shortages hold back business activities and limit the potential for EU growth.
The new experimental statistics on OJAR complements the Job Vacancy Rate (JVR) published by Eurostat as official statistics, with breakdowns by occupation obtained from OJA data collected through the WIH.
Releasing this novel indicator based on OJA data, as experimental statistics, therefore contributes to filling the information gaps of the existing job vacancy statistics, provides users with additional understanding on labour market dynamics and helps to identify the skills gaps in the European Union.
This indicator has the status of experimental statistics due to its reliance on new data sources and new methodologies that do not yet fully meet the quality standards required for official statistics.
