The legal dispute between Asian News International (ANI) and OpenAI underscores the complexities of applying India's Copyright Act of 1957 to contemporary AI technologies. In November 2024, ANI filed a lawsuit against OpenAI in the Delhi High Court, alleging that OpenAI's ChatGPT model utilised ANI's copyrighted content without permission for training purposes. OpenAI refutes these allegations, asserting that it employs publicly available data protected under fair use principles and does not specifically use content from Indian media groups for training ChatGPT.

In addition, 18 million euros was obtained via the EIC Transition programme. The RVO acts as the national contact point for these European subsidy schemes, which are part of the Horizon Europe programme of the European Commission.
