We are halfway through the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018

date:  04/12/2017

Throughout 2018 an exciting and unique series of activities and events are encouraging people from all over to discover and engage with Europe’s shared cultural heritage.

As the European Year of Cultural Heritage reaches its mid-point, we’d like to welcome you to our fourth newsletter, bringing you the relevant highlights and opportunities available across Europe. Why not share this with your colleagues and friends who might be interested? Look out for further updates in your inbox, too!

Heritage comes alive when people are at its centre!

Objects, places and traditions are important not by themselves, but because of the uses and meanings that people attach to them, as well as the values they represent. People and communities keep heritage alive, as it forms part of their personal stories and life experiences.

Throughout the European Year of Cultural Heritage, children, young people, adults and local communities are encouraged to actively engage with and enjoy cultural heritage, while celebrating what binds us together in all our diversity. Our collective efforts have borne fruits – only in the first quarter of 2018, we have already achieved impressive results:

  • Over 2,580 events have been organised on the occasion of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018;
  • Engaging over 1 million people;
  • Over 3,500 projects have received the European Year of Cultural Heritage label

In this edition of the newsletter, we focus on engagement and participation, because heritage is alive when people are at its centre. Read on to learn about the initiatives and events encouraging people to partake in the safeguarding of our cultural heritage for present and future generations.
