Throughout July and October, the CMA Sustainable Aquaculture Technical Group (SustAqua) advanced its work on strengthening resilience, innovation and environmental monitoring across the Black Sea aquaculture sector. At its 16 July meeting, the group began a new cycle of cooperation with its updated membership, electing a Chair and Vice‑Chair and exchanging updates on regional initiatives ranging from algae‑based aquaculture to macroalgae restoration and innovative technologies. Members also discussed the AquaSMART concept, a regional approach to harmonised environmental monitoring and early warning systems for aquaculture producers. The 1 October meeting continued this momentum, with experts reviewing active projects, sharing insights from recent studies and pilot activities and further shaping AquaSMART into a regional framework integrating satellite data, modelling and field observations. Across both meetings, SustAqua members reaffirmed their commitment to advancing shared priorities, strengthening cooperation and supporting sustainable aquaculture development in the Black Sea region.
