Blue events happening in October: creating synergies for the Atlantic stakeholders

A series of events linked to the blue economy will happen in October 2023 in Porto. The aim is to gather the projects, potential partners, Interreg and mainstream funding programmes, managing authorities, the European Commission, and other interested parties in one single place to promote cooperation in practice, the exchange of knowledge, and the creation of synergies among the Atlantic stakeholders.

 
Upcoming EU Hydrogen Bank pilot auction: Terms & Conditions published

The European Commission has published the Terms and Conditions for the pilot auction dedicated to European renewable hydrogen production. It is an important step towards scaling up the production of renewable hydrogen in the EU, and achieving EU Green Deal goals. The auction, funded by the Innovation Fund, is intended to open in November 2023.

 
EU Algae Awareness Summit

The first ever EU Algae Awareness Summit will be held 5-7 October 2023 at the Maison de l’Océan in Paris.

It will kick off a process to promote and raise awareness among EU Member State administrations and the public on the benefits algae cultivation may bring to national and regional economies, people and the regeneration of our ocean.

 
World Cleanup Day and #EUBeachCleanUp coming up

World Cleanup Day unites millions of volunteers, governments and organizations, in 197 countries and territories, to tackle the global mismanaged waste crisis and to help create a new, more sustainable world. If you live in Brussels, you can join one (or several!) of the actions that will be organised on that day.

 
Out-of-office messages

When taking time off, it’s good practice to create an effective out-of-office message for your work email. You should always give people your return date as well as an alternative source to contact in your absence. This could be a FMB or the address of a colleague acting as your back-up. Providing all the practical information is good - but it’s even better if you can do so succinctly.

 
Construction of the Szczuczyn-Budzisko (state border) S61

This key project selected under the first CEF call (over €379 million of CEF funding) comes to the end with 100% completion rate. It is a very important part of the Polish stretch of the via Baltica co-financed by CEF. Given the Russian invasion in Ukraine the significance of via Baltica has further increased to support military mobility. The S61 road is part of the trans-European transport network connecting Poland to the Baltic States and ensures the continuity of the North Sea - Baltic Core Network Corridor between the two closest urban nodes on both sides of the Polish-Lithuanian border.

 
Innovation Fund project landfills gas into grid-compliant biomethane in Spain

The Waga 4 World (W4W) project has already achieved a remarkable feat in Spain by producing grid-compliant biomethane from landfill gas, all thanks to the cutting-edge WAGABOX® technology deployed at the Can Mata (Spain). With a €2.4 million grant under the EU ETS Innovation Fund, the technology will avoid the emission of 17,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year by replacing fossil natural gas.

 
Security session on staying safe in public areas - 29 September 2023

Do you wonder about the best ways to keep yourself safe and secure on the street, when walking in an unfamiliar neighborhood or when travelling to different places? Join the presentation delivered by a Brussels police officer who will give advice on how to protect yourself and how to handle uncomfortable situations in public. CINEA Staff Charter

The first draft of the CINEA Staff Charter is now ready and you are welcome to send your comments/remarks by 11 September to CINEA-STAFF-ENGAGEMENT@ec.europa.eu. The draft charter - presenting staff’s core values as a guiding principle for the benefits of everyone in the Agency as well as for our work towards beneficiaries, external stakeholders, and citizens - will be also discussed at CINEA Away Day on 15 September.
