The story of Digicash and its eCash

Before Satoshi Nakamoto and Bitcoin, there was a first attempt to create a decentralised and cryptographic digital money by cryptographer David Schaum. Focused on privacy, he laid the groundwork of a new concept, the so-called public key encryption ("Blind signatures for untraceable payments").

 
Technical update

The EBSI Technology Group has advanced on the design and development set-up for the EBSI 1 MVP. There have been in-depth discussions with the Member States on the use case requirements. In addition, the group has on-boarded new people with key skill sets for the next project phases and the selection of the technical components to build the EBSI software stack.

 
Policy update

The 16 July 2019 political guidelines confirm the EU’s ambition to grasp the opportunities from the digital age, leading the way on next-generation “hyperscalers”, including major investments in blockchain. Distributed technologies permeate economic activities and public services at large. Their importance as a driver of growth in the EU's and global economy will likely continue to increase.

 
Save the Date: 4th ELRC Conference, 26-27/11, Brussels

This event will focus on shaping Europe’s multilingual future through the sharing of language data. It will include a variety of interesting talks and panel discussions that provide a critical analysis of challenges the CEF-affiliated countries are currently facing with regard to sharing and using language data.

 
ICT Proposers' Day, 19-20/09, Helsinki

This event will provide an excellent opportunity to present and discuss the main policy drivers of the digital transformation of European industry and society - including the CEF Building Blocks.

 
CEF: Five years supporting European infrastructure

The INEA publication takes an extensive look at the CEF programme 2014-2019. During this time, 16 dedicated calls were launched for the five established Building Blocks, allocating €75.3 million in CEF Telecom funding to 128 actions.
