The architecture now includes key elements needed for a Member State government entity or cross-border institution to create citizen services. With this approach, which goes beyond blockchain protocols, EBSI will be able to technically incubate services in a decentralized network with governmental or regulatory level governance. The components and design have been established to implement the two testbed protocols for EBSI 1, Ethereum Enterprise and Hyperledger Fabric. This is part of a longer-term process and design to make EBSI a blockchain protocol independent platform with a plug-in architecture. The overall aim is to include blockchain protocols that add real value to citizen services.
EBSI will have multiple interoperability features to ensure the network can support services on multiple blockchains. This process includes an evaluation matrix, which will allow for transparent selection of blockchain protocols to ensure they are fit for purpose for government services.
Along with some considerable background work, such as setting up an Agile development process, the technology team focuses on the start of the actual development for EBSI 1 in October 2019. The goal is to have a MVP for validation purposes in January 2020.
