High-level Rural Policy Forum: "Shaping the future of rural areas"

The High-level Rural Policy Forum is organised by the Spanish presidency of the Council of the European Union and the European Commission with the Rural Pact Support Office. It offers a bold opportunity to gather key political actors to advance the political agenda for the future of rural areas, prepare a fruitful debate in the Council of the EU, and support Member States to take action to unlock the potential of rural areas in achieving the LTVRA objectives. It will help move forward towards greater complementarities among different policy instruments and strategies.

 
EU Organic Awards

The winners of the 8 awards will be announced at the official ceremony in Brussels on 25 September 2023. From farmer to restaurant, they provide examples of best practices, and will explain their project to a broader public.

 
3rd edition of the SMART VILLAGE Forum

The 3rd edition of the SMART VILLAGE Forum will open its doors between June 28 and July 3, 2023 at the Delta hotel in the Jupiter resort, through a participatory event that will reflect the role of the authorities and the business environment in consolidating the long-term vision on rural communities.

3rd Rural geographies conference

The Rural Geography group of the Faculty of Spatial Sciences, University of Groningen, feels honoured to host the 3rd European Rural Geography Conference. The conference theme is Rural Geographies in Transition. Rural areas in Europe are under increasing and intersecting pressures and transitions. The landscapes, the actors, the uses, the challenges, and the ways in which the rural is produced and reproduced, are all changing rapidly. This brings forward new research questions and asks for new approaches, both in terms of theoretical perspectives and in terms of empirics, on topics such as population developments, socio-spatial inequalities, governance and policies, economic challenges, quality of life, smart villages, landscape transitions, rural entrepreneurship, agricultural transformations, rural housing, energy transitions and climate change adaptation.

 
Regional studies association annual conference

#RSA23 will address topics concerned with regional and urban development, policy and research. The Association takes a broad view of its remit, but all submissions will be refereed prior to acceptance to ensure minimum standards of quality and field relevance and innovation are maintained. In addition to abstract submissions we welcome proposals for special sessions, networking events, book launches, author meets critic sessions, etc.

 
Public hearing "The role of Youth in Rural Development"

On Monday 12 June 2023, the EESC will host a hybrid public hearing to gather the view of youth representatives, rural development experts and various stakeholders on how to promote sustainable and inclusive rural development that benefits young people and rural communities as a whole.

 
5th OECD Roundtable on the Circular Economy in Cities and Regions

This roundtable is organised as part of the OECD Programme on the Circular Economy in Cities and Regions – with the support of the European Commission. It will bring together key circular economy stakeholders in Tallinn, the EU’s 2023 Green Capital. This roundtable will enable stakeholders to share and learn from initiatives developed by cities and regions to implement the circular economy and advance on the measurement and monitoring agenda. It will also feature the launch of a new OECD report on the circular economy in Tallinn.

 
SHERPA Final conference

Since October 2019, SHERPA has worked on formulating recommendations for the future of rural areas in a variety of key topics. SHERPA has also accompanied the development of the EU Long-Term Vision for Rural Areas with the ambition to contribute to future rural policies. The SHERPA Final Conference will provide the final opportunity to look back at the work done and identify, by using a co-creative participatory approach, the main SHERPA recommendations, as well as reflect on the methodology of using Science-Society-Policy interfaces. This will be facilitated by gathering members of all its 41 Science-Society-Policy interfaces in Brussels, which will also allow them to interact with each other directly and jointly decide the final messages of the project.

It will provide an overview of European research and innovation activities and their achievements in agriculture, forestry and rural development. Participants will also be invited to share their views on how to shape the future EU agricultural research and innovation agenda.

 
Rural Pact Good Practice Webinar: "Fostering social entrepreneurship in rural areas through local action"

In the context of the Rural Pact, this Good Practice Webinar will offer practitioners a range of inspiring initiatives fostering social entrepreneurship and provide an opportunity to discuss and explore them in depth. The focus of the discussions will be selected to address the interests expressed by participants in the registration form (e.g. finding the right format of social enterprise to address a specific community need, ensuring the involvement of key actors, developing the necessary skills, or maintaining and developing the social enterprise in a long-term perspective).

 
Rural Pact Conference in Sweden

The long-term vision for the EU’s rural areas was launched in June 2021. Since then, rural pact mobilisation has started in various parts of the Union, to make rural Europe stronger, connected, resilient and prosperous by 2040. What are the experiences so far and what can we learn from each other in order to take the next steps for a revitalised rural Europe?
