The European Commission and North Macedonia have signed an agreement, granting the country access to the EU programme to develop and share solutions for digital public administrations.
European Commissioner for Budget and Administration, Johannes Hahn said: ‘’It fills me with joy to be able to welcome North Macedonia to our programme for digital public administrations, an essential building block in connecting our societies. After last week’s endorsement of the opening of the EU accession negotiations with North Macedonia, this is a concrete achievement, showing our ever-closer links as we advance on the path to EU membership.‘’
Due to the exceptional circumstances, the agreement was signed by Commissioner Hahn and the Minister of Information Society and Administration of North Macedonia, Damjan Mancevski, in a digital signature ceremony using video conference.
In concrete terms, North Macedonia will:
• Get access and reuse digital solutions developed for other public administrations in the EU
• Share and develop own IT solutions with other countries
• Be part of the annual e-government benchmark exercise where progress is measured and shared in factsheets;
• Become an observer on the ISA² programme committee
• Contribute financially to the programme.
North Macedonia has become the 31st member of ISA², next to the 27 EU Member States, Iceland, Montenegro and Norway. Read more about the participation of North Macedonia in the ISA² Programme here.
About the ISA2 Programme
ISA² is a €131 million programme, managed by the European Commission. The programme aims to develop and share interoperable digital solutions for public administrations, businesses and citizens in order to enable better cooperation of digital public services across borders and sectors.
Interoperability is the necessary condition for digital public services to become truly connected across the single market. It is essential for administrations to be able to offer seamless services on the basis of trusted links, in the interest of people and businesses.
The ISA² Programme is open to countries in the European Economic Area and candidate countries to the EU.
ISA² implements the commonly accepted European Interoperability Framework. All its solutions are freely and openly available to public administrations, businesses and citizens via the Joinup platform.
