Better Legislation for smoother implementation: Digital-ready legislation in Denmark

On 21 October 2020, the ISA² Legal Interoperability Action is organising a virtual breakfast on digital-ready legislation in Denmark.

In a world of rapidly evolving technologies, it is important to ensure that legislation takes into account potential digital impacts and fosters the take-up of digital solutions. This means that new legislative proposals have to be consistent with relevant legislation; they should consider digital impacts and be interoperable by default. The legal interoperability team of the European Commission has the vision to make legislation an enabler for the smooth implementation of European public policies. For this, they created a multidisciplinary community to share good practices and co-create tools with interoperability in mind: the Better legislation for smoother implementation community. As part of this community, they organize monthly virtual breakfasts on different legal interoperability-related topics.

This interactive workshop will be co-animated by Kristoffer Nilaus Olsen, special advisor of the Danish Agency for Digitisation. The Agency’s approach to build digital-ready legislation is a European best-practice, which refers to formulating policies and legislation that are ready for the digital age, future-proof and interoperable. It ensures an easier workload for public employees and a more effective digital service for citizens and corporations. Legislation must be plain and clear in order to lay the foundation for a truly systematic de-bureaucratization of the Danish public sector. Denmark has established a number of principles to support policymakers in their digital-ready efforts.

In this virtual breakfast the legal interoperability team will also give a sneak preview on the upcoming update of the European Commission’s Better Regulation Tool on digital-ready policymaking.
