BlueEye is a 4G wearable video camera system which is aimed at vertical industries such as healthcare, public safety, power generation, industry and construction. This technology, developed with support from the EU, allows for expertise to be brought to a remote real-time situation, speeding up outcomes, reducing operational costs and potentially saving lives in emergency situations. The solution is based on simplex real-time video streamed from the camera to a command centre or a hot desk and is supported by interactive duplex audio. It is based on multimode wireless 4G/WiFi today and 5G in the future).

About the Innovator

RedZinc Services Limited is a software company specialising in wearable video technology for first responders and telemaintenance. The BlueEye camera from RedZinc, transmits video in real-time across 4G using interactive audio to bring expertise to a remote site e.g. the scene of an accident, a hotspot or equipment installation or repair. RedZinc has been at the forefront of network telecommunications development, bringing its expertise in Quality of Service and network slicing to bear on its product development.

What is the innovation

Expertise gained in EU-funded projects evolved into two platforms, which are wearable video for first responders over 4G networks and network slicing for 5G. The wearable video for first responders has gone from zero to Technology Readiness Level 9 as a result of the EU-funded LiveCity and Q4Health projects. This platform is a unique innovation with the potential to impact patient outcome, enhance public safety and provide tele-maintenance benefits.

Out of the lab - Into the Market

BlueEye is now a hardware/software product which we are piloting in the police sector in Malaga. It is applicable to many markets. We are planning to start with pilots in healthcare, police and energy industries (initially in Spain, UK and Ireland). We will then focus on the industry with the strongest demand which matches our product more closely. We are ready for the upcoming 5G application market and will launch the product internationally in a number of sectors.

Benefits of participation in the Framework Programme

Participation in EU-funded projects has allowed us to collaborate on R&D with other companies, develop the expertise to conceptualise, prototype, develop architecture, software and test it on 4G/5G networks. This has allowed us to get to the point of a product development lifecycle which is between validation in operational scenarios and deployment to the market place.
