To further enhance the Digital Single Market in Europe, consumers of retail financial products should be able to purchase and use these products at a distance and across borders in full compliance with the anti-money laundering and KYC requirements. Technological innovation enables identification at distance through new means such as biometrics and electronic identification means (e.g. as defined by the eIDAS Regulation). However, based on a recent public consultation towards retail financial services (Green Paper on retail financial services), whose results are now reflected in the Consumer Financial Services Action Plan, providers often reported barriers caused by divergent regulations and practices. A mapping of these practices would help create a better understanding why these are different, and an assessment of the potential opportunities brought by the spread and uptake of eIDAS across the EU.

To this end, DG CONNECTof the European Commission, has launched a study on “eID and digital on-boarding: mapping and analysis of existing on-boarding bank practices across European Union” (SMART 2016/0094).

In the frame of this project, the contractor (PwC) organises a validation workshop where the draft findings of the study will be shared and discussed with the audience, and the audience will be able to provide feedback. This feedback will be used to enrich the final report. During the day, experts from different areas related to the subject of the study will be presenting and discussing their views on the topic.
