Biography
Annalisa Appice is an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science, University of Bari Aldo Moro, Italy where she teaches in the courses of “Machine Learning for CyberSecurity” and “Advances Programming Methods”.

She received her Ph.D in Computer Science from University of Bari in March 2005, with a thesis in the field of Multi-Relational Data Mining entitled “Learning Relational Model Trees”.

In 2002, she received an award from University of Bari as Best Student in the Faculty of Mathematics, Sciences and Physics in 2000/2001.

In 2005, she received a special mention within AI*IA 2005 for the scientific curriculum vitae and the ph.D dissertation.

During the period November 2003-March 2004 she collaborated as research student with the Machine Learning Research Group headed by prof. Peter Flach of the Department of Computer Science, University of Bristol (U.K.).

During the period January-March 2007, she was visiting researcher at the Department of Knowledge Technologies of Jozef Stefan Institute where she collaborated with prof. Saso Dzeroski.

During the period January 2009-December 2018, she was Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science, University of Bari Aldo Moro, Italy.

Her research interests include cybersecurity, remote sensing , spatial, spatio-temporal data mining, stream data mining, process mining, symbolic data analysis and model tree induction. She has authored more than 150 papers in the field of machine learning and data mining.

She participates/participated to several European and National projects, as well as regional strategic projects. She is the responsible of research units in the Regional project Kometa (topic on process mining INNOLABS call) funded by Region Apulia and two national projects (topic on UAV applications and remote sensing, PON calls) funded by the Italian Ministry for Universities and Research (MIUR).

She was Program co-Chair of ECML-PKDD2015 and ISMIS 2017. She is Program co-Chair of DS 2020 and Journal Track Chair of ECML PKDD 2021. She participates/participated in the organization (as co-chair) of several workshops on the topics machine learning, data mining, process mining and cybersecurity. She is serving/has served in the program committee of several international/ national conferences. She was involved in the organizing committee of the 15th Italian Symposium on Advanced Database Systems (SEBD'07), International Conference on Discovery Science (DS ’17) (Big Dat Winter School (Big Dat’ 17). She was member of the steering committee of ECML PKDD (2016-2018) and she is a member of the steering committee of ISMIS. She is member of the PhD School of Informatics. She is a member of the editorial board of Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery(DAMI) and Journal of Intelligent Information Systems (JIIS).

She acted as guest-editor of three special issues of international journals (topics Progress on Multi-Relational Data Mining, Mining Complex Patterns, Recent Advances in Mining Patterns from Complex Data ).

She is/was phD supervisor/co-superivsor of 5 phD students on topics cybersecurity (topics: network intrusion detection, machine learning for GDPR compliance), remote sensing, process mining. She is supervisor of about 80 master thesis in Computer Science (topics cybersecurity, remote sensing, spatio-temporal data mining, process mining).

Giuseppina Andresini graduated in computer science from the University of Bari Aldo Moro, Italy, in April 2018, discussing a Laurea thesis on data mining, where she is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree with the Department of Computer Science. Her research activity mainly concerns deep learning, data mining, big data analytics, and cybersecurity. The applications include malware analysis and intrusion detection. She is involved in a research national project on intrusion detection. She is a member of the Organization Committee of the CyberChallenge.IT 2020 in the Department of Computer Science, University of Bari Aldo Moro.

* 2010-2014 Bachelor of Science: Media and Information Technology and Design at Offenburg University of Applied Science. During that time I have worked with large enterprises like Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, but also SMEs like Prolead Technologies (Data Management and Processing) and Markant (Software Development).
*2014/2015 I have received the Leonardo da Vinci Fellowship for Computer Science which enabled me to participate in the program "Talent@BW go Demola", where I worked in international teams on IT related research topics in Finland.
*2015-2017: Master of Science - Media and Computer Science at the Stuttgart Media University. My research focus was and still is on Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Cyber Security. Mrs. Loredana MANCINI is an expert and practitioner in the IT area. She has been directly involved for the last 25 years in different projects connected with infrastructure and security for important customers, she covered different roles from engineering to marketing, management, consulting, innovation programs definition. Loredana Mancini has held different position, from technical to coordination, in research projects and in innovation projects for different industries. She is an active member in coaching and standardization groups. She is one of the founders of the Italian Chapter on Cloud Security Alliance, founder of the Italian Metric Association. Furthermore, she is CCSK, CSA STAR, CRISC, COBIT, ITIL, ISO2000, ISO27001, ISO22301 and CGEIT certified. She is Vice Chair of the Committee of Women in Application Security in OWASP (OWASP/WIA), she is the Italian Chapter leader for the Infosecgirl group, Central Italy Ambassador for Women4.0 Community, Founding member of the BlockChainLadies Community, member of the SheLeadsTech ISACA community.
