Actors in the fight against poverty join forces for 2010

Stakeholder conference

The participation of diverse actors such as NGOs, social partners, regional and local authorities and foundations will play a key role in the EY 2010’s success. A stakeholder group composed of EU level networks and actors was set up to provide a platform for exchange on the European Year’s preparation at different levels and to discuss active partnership.

The second group meeting took place on 17th September 2009 and was an opportunity to make a first assessment of the preparatory activities of the European Year. It appeared that the EY 2010 has the potential to lead to the creation of new partnerships, new initiatives and a positive momentum in many countries. However, much will depend on the ability to sustain partnerships, to engage a diverse range of actors across the whole campaign and on the involvement of people experiencing poverty.

The meeting was also an opportunity to get a first glimpse of the variety of activities prepared by NGOs and stakeholders across the EU, such as conferences, photo exhibitions, round tables, awareness-raising activities, as well as common political demands.

On this basis, active cooperation will be developed around some key aspects of the European information and communication campaign, in particular the art initiative, focus weeks and ambassadors.
