European Year at Couleur Café!

Couleur café

The music festival season started in Brussels with Couleur Café from 25-27 June at Tour & Taxis. With its more than 80’000 visitors and over 40 concerts over three days, offers the best of R&B, hip hop, world, afro, reggae, ragga, dub, dancehall, Latin, salsa, son, raï and rock.

More than just a music festival, there is a whole vibe surrounding Couleur Café: street art, fireworks, world food, dance lessons and the Solidarity Village which, this year, was dedicated to the theme of poverty. The 2010 European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion invited musicians to play in their tent in the middle of the Solidarity Village and took the opportunity to inform visitors about poverty and social exclusion in Europe.

In addition to the European Year and Social Europe, the Solidarity Village brought together the European Commission, Belgian development cooperation organisation DGCD and about 10 social NGOs which are fighting poverty in Europe and beyond, among others Caritas, ATD Quart Monde, Médecins du Monde and Amnesty International.
