Melinda Mills

Melinda Mills (MBE, FBA) (PhD Demography) is Director, Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science (LCDS), University of Oxford and Nuffield College. Her research spans interdisciplinary topics in demography, empirical sociology, statistics, molecular genetics and high dimensional data. Substantive work is in cross-national comparative research, life course, employment and fertility.

She has published 7 books, including 2 statistical textbooks on survival models and applied statistical genetics, and over 100 academic articles. She currently holds an ERC Advanced Grant applying a biosocial approach to nonstandard and precarious employment and chronotype.

During COVID, she served as an advisor on the UK national Government’s SAGE (Science Advisory Group for Emergencies) on behavioural insights and ethnicity and Royal Society’s Science in Emergency Tasking Group.

She is on the non-Executive supervisory board of the Dutch National Science Council (NWO) and Executive Board of the ESRC (Economic and Social Research Council), UK Science and Knowledge Innovation.
