Zsófia Bárány

Zsófia L. Bárány is Associate Professor of Economics at the Central European University in Vienna. Before joining the CEU she was Assistant Professor of Economics at Sciences Po Paris. She obtained a PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Zsófia is a macroeconomist mainly interested in economic growth, technological change, and the labour market. Most of her work aims at understanding the driving forces behind the large changes that have unfolded on the labor markets of most developed countries since the middle of the 20th century. Her most recent work focuses on the impact of technological change on inequality.

Several recent papers have shown that the COVID pandemic had a vastly unequal impact on households, with the poorest households hit the hardest. In light of this, it is paramount that academics and policy makers work together in devising policies post-pandemic.
