Ahead of the European Day of Justice tomorrow, I would like to reflect on how far we have come in developing a common European area of justice, and to celebrate the progress we have made together.
10/10/2014 - Reform of EU rules on data protection makes progress at the Justice Council
"Today’s meeting with Justice ministers was an important one. I am pleased to say that the negotiations on the data protection Regulation took another big step forward today" said EU Justice Commissioner Martine Reicherts following the Justice Council in Luxembourg on 10 October.

Today Martine Reicherts met with Andrea Orlando, Minister of Justice for Italy, to discuss a number of key Justice files the Commission is striving to advance in close cooperation with the Italian Presidency of the Council of the EU. The EU Data Protection Reform, the European Public Prosecutor's office and Justice for Growth were the main points of their talks, ahead of the Justice and Home Affairs Council in October.

Martine Reicherts has taken office as EU Commissioner for Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship in the European Commission. The European Parliament voted with a strong majority to elect Ms Reicherts on 16 July 2014, following an exchange of views with the LIBE, JURI and FEMM committees in Strasbourg on 14 July.
